InnoRenew CoE was established as a flagship project funded by the European Commission and the Republic of Slovenia, and has recently joined University of Primorska, Andrej Marušič Institute.


The materials group focuses on designing, developing, and testing next-generation functional materials with enhanced properties, sustainability, and extended service life that support the uptake of renewable materials in the built environment. As part of ongoing and upcoming projects, the candidate will play a key role in advancing the institutes' research including the projects ERC CoG (#101044468), ARCHI-SKIN (#101185862), EIC REMEDY and HE NEB MISS BIOARC (# 101215956).


InnoRenew CoE (UP IAM) is searching for a skilled instrument specialist in analytical chemistry with expertise in GC-MS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry), LC-MS (Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry), TGA (thermogravimetry) and IR (infrared) spectroscopy to support our advanced analytical chemistry efforts. The ideal candidate should have a combination of technical skills, experience, and knowledge specific to these analytical techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot GC-MS, LC-MS, TGA and FTIR instruments for qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Develop and optimize analytical methods for various sample types.
  • Ensure compliance with GLP/GMP and other regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with scientists and other laboratory personnel across multidisciplinary projects.
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation of analytical procedures and results.
  • Engage in regular communication with group and laboratory heads.

Essential requirements:

  • Educational Background: PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field.
  • Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience and in-depth technical knowledge in GC-MS, and LC-MS, TGA and FTIR including an understanding of the principles behind each technique and the ability to troubleshoot and optimize these systems.
  • Method Development: Experience with sample preparation, method development, and data interpretation in these techniques.
  • Teamwork and Communication: The ability to work effectively in a team and strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Min 3-years of relevant experience, particularly in operating and maintaining GC-MS and LC-MS.
  • Experience with Good Laboratory Practice, and familiarity with REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals) and CLP (Classification, Labelling, and Packaging) regulations.
