The consortium of the European project The Modular Mental Health Toolbox (MentBox) is celebrating its first anniversary with a two-day meeting on September 11–12, 2025, hosted by the Andrej Marušič Institute University of Primorska in Koper, Slovenia.

Co-funded by the European Union, the MentBox project is developing a Modular Mental Health Toolbox (MH-Toolbox) to address depression, suicide, and non-clinical distress among vulnerable groups. The toolbox will be tailored to national needs and supported by a digital handbook to guide implementation across EU Member States.

In its first year, the project has advanced research on the mental health needs of the Roma community in Spain, identified key interventions for the toolbox in Slovenia, and engaged European ministries of health through consultations led by the Autonomous University of Madrid. The initiative is coordinated by the European Alliance Against Depression (EAAD) with contributions from the World Health Collaborative Centre for Mental Health Services Research at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), Andalusian Health Service, Slovene Centre for Suicide Research at the University of Primorska, and the Global Alliance of Mental Illness Advocacy Networks-Europe (GAMIAN-Europe).

The meeting coincides with Community Day 2025 (September 12), also held at the University of Primorska, which will bring together professionals from education, healthcare, social services, and NGOs to strengthen support systems for young people in distress. A keynote session, “Two Faces of Depression: Personal Experience and Professional Insight,” will close the plenary, featuring EAAD President Prof. Ulrich Hegerl and GAMIAN-Europe’s Erik Van der Eycken, who will share expert and lived-experience perspectives.
