Connecting Through Rector's Day at UP
On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, Rector's Day 2023 unfolded, offering a rich program of lectures and social activities to UP employees and students. For the students, the University Sports Association of Primorska and the Student Organization of the University of Primorska (ŠOUP) organized the traditional sports and entertainment event Čistka 10, where students represented their faculties.
The day's activities were diverse, spanning sports, cultural, and educational events. Employees had the option to kick-start their day with a literary walk around Koper and coffee in the mixUP space, organized by the UP Book Club. Alternatively, employees and students could attend a travel lecture by Lovrenc Habe, who shared his fascinating travel experiences from Thailand and the Philippines.
The splendid autumn weather provided an opportunity for outdoor activities, beginning in the morning. Employees could partake in a lengthy hike with SportUP to Tinjan or enjoy a scenic walk from Koper to Izola, with two endpoint options: the Archaeological Park in Simon's Bay or a tour of the InnoRenew CoE building. Others chose to walk to the Aquarium of Piran from the UP Turistica building, cycle along Parenzana towards Muggia, or participate in a tour led by Alex Žigante from the UP RIC. A notable event was the educational and recreational "Walk in the Footsteps of Migrants - Testimonies of Life Stories," organized by Dr. Michael Mrissa and Dr. Katja Hrobat Virloget as part of a series of events.
Meta Lavrič (UP IAM SCRS) conducted a workshop on Stress and Mindfulness in the Workplace. At UP FM, Dr. Igor Rižnar demonstrated the use of the ChatGPT API tool on Raspberry Pi, while Dr. Jan Frančeškin provided insights into the basics of investing. Dr. Simona Kustec delivered a lecture on Knowledge Missions in the Age of Artificial Intelligence - A Human Perspective, and Dr. Štefan Bojnec and Dr. Patricia Blatnik presented the AGRIGEP project (Gender Equality Issue).
The Rector's Day was just the beginning of a series of special events. On Thursday, there will be a PhD promotion ceremony and the first literary evening with Marcello Potocco (in collaboration with Barbara Jurša Potocco) at the newly opened UP University Library. Friday will witness the official opening of the Prisoje Student Dormitory, coinciding with World Ethics Day. To celebrate, UP FHŠ will host a panel discussion on Trends in Academic Ethics and Integrity on Tuesday, October 24.
